Classification: Chicobolus Spinigerus


Geographic Range: They are found from the southern part of South Carolina to the southern part of Florida.


Habitat: They like dark, cool, and moist environments.


Development: When born they usually have only pairs of legs and segments. They grow new legs and segments each time they molt.


Physical Description: They are segmented. They are dark brown in color with lighter whitish-brownish colored stripes. Except for the first three segments, each of them has two pairs of legs per segment. They are round except for the bottom is flat. They can grow up to 4 inches long.


Reproduction: The female millipedes lay eggs in nests that are usually guarded extremely well.


Lifespan: on average they live 5-7 years


Behavior: They are nocturnal and usually leave their hiding places at night to crawl around. Sometimes they are known to migrate into buildings during fall. They tend to curl up into a tight ball whenever they are frightened.


Food Habits: They mostly feed of vegetation, living and dead both. They will sometimes feed on small, dead snails, worms, and insects.
