Subterranean Termite

This is the most common species of termites in North America. They actually cause about 90% of all home damage caused by termites. Subterranean termites are white in color and are often mistaken for ants. They live in vast colonies under the ground and create tunnels to lead them to moist areas. They actually have to live in moist environments. Their diet consists of cellulose, which comes primarliy from wood, but also from cardboard, fiberboard, or any plant based cellulose. Termites live by a caste system, meaning there are workers, soldiers, reproducers, and a king and queen. They are neccesary for breaking down dead matter in the wild.
