This cicada was found on the B building outside the Watson Center of Santa Fe College, Keystone Heights, FL. The picture was take in June 2008.
This is a type of cicada commonly called a Dogday Harvestfly. They are common in pine forests in the eastern US> The nymphs (juveniles) eat root juices from pines and the adults don't eat. They have a 3 year life cycle and emerge in the summer.
